Some cable news network called Ohio for Obama at a time when Romney was leading in the popular vote.

That's when Trump posted these tweet, which he later deleted.

Trump wasn't the only celebrity to rail against Obama's win. Although, with all due respect to the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent's rant was less surprising.

Canadian politics has had its share of Twitter drama this year, too.

In June, Conservative Senator Patrick Brazeau lashed out at Canadian Press reporter Jen Ditchburn for this story about his attendance record:

Danielle Smith said she made a mistake and has learned a lesson about social media.

"We have to defer to [the Canadian Food Inspection Agency]. They're the regulator; they made the decision that you couldn't safely do that, so they did not certify the beef," she said.

You could fill an entire article with inappropriate tweets from athletes and fans (or even one for every sport, for that matter.)

In April, back when hockey players were playing hockey, the Boston Bruins issued an apology after several people -- many presenting themselves as the team's fans -- tweeted racist slurs at Joel Ward, the Washington Capitals player who scored game-winning goal that eliminated the Bruins from the playoffs.

"These classless, ignorant views are in no way a reflection of anyone associated with the Bruins organization," the statement said.

The London Olympics weren't immune to Twitter gaffes.

A Greek track athlete was expelled from the London Olympics for a racist joke she posted on Twitter. She later apologized.

One official indicated a Seattle touchdown while the other signaled an incomplete pass. It was ruled a touchdown and the Seahawks won over Green Bay.

Packers guard T.J. Lang vented his frustration on Twitter, flouting rules against players using social media on game days.

Lang wasn't fined and the ref lockout ended days later.

The Twitter rantings Canadian football players, though, have resulted in fines. B.C. Lions lineman Khalif Mitchell was fined the CFL for posting a message containing a racial slur on his Twitter account.

And the Calgary Stampeders' Nik Lewis was fined for a joke he made on Twitter:

"I just bought OJ's gloves on eBay. Now all I need is a white girl named Nicole. #maybealittletofar"

The league ordered the tweet deleted and Lewis apologized. "I try to use my comedic rights and I guess I went a little too far," he said.
