Canadians consuming smartphone data at rapid rate

A recent U.S. study found that for the first time, smartphones have surpassed landlines as most Americans' primary means of communication.

In Canada, about one in five Canadians rely solely on their cellphone. While the shift to wireless isn't new, the speed of the transition is growing rapidly, with data consumption increasing at five per cent every week in Canada.

Between now and 2016, Canada will need 30 times more bandwidth than what is currently available on the networks.
