The Eaton Centre Shooting
On June 2, gunfire broke out in the food court of Toronto's Eaton Centre shopping mall. One person died on the scene, and another man died of his injuries a few days later. The shooting took place in daylight hours, in a crowded food court in one of the busiest public places in the city.
The Toronto Blue Jays' Brett Lawrie broke the news to many on Twitter with this series of tweets:

Elliot Lake mall collapse
Canadians were horrified to learn that people were trapped in the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake, Ont., after a section of the roof collapsed on June 23.
At first, as many as 30 people were thought to be trapped, but the list was quickly narrowed down to just two people: Lucie Alwyn and Doloris Perizzolo. Both women died in the roof collapse. An inquiry into the cause of the disaster is currently delayed.
Kevin McSheffrey, the editor of the Elliot Lake Standard, was nearby at the time, and captured audio of the roof collapsing.
